About Catania

Catania is the second most popular city of Sicily. It is located at the foot of Etna - the highest active volcano in Europe - and on the Ionian sea coast.
The rich history and culture of the town is due to different occupations of Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Normans, Svevians, Aragonites, Angiò and Spanish, bringing with them their uses and knowledge inherited from Catania. Monuments and churches present in the city are the result of these different cultures. The city centre has been inserted in the World Heritage list of UNESCO and many important monuments can be visited.

Etna Mountain and beautiful nearby towns (Acitrezza, Aci Castello, Taormina) are easily reachable by several buses departing from the squares near the railway station.

Airport Transporation

Participants are recommended to reach the international airport in Catania (CTA) which is well connected with the main European airports (London, Paris, Bruxelles, Munich, Berlin, Madrid, Barcelona, Zurich, etc.) as well from the airports of Rome and Milan by several daily flights and from other many Italian airports.

The centre of Catania can be reached from the international airport in about 20 minutes by Taxi or public transport (Alibus number 457). The ticket fare is 20,00 € for the Taxi and 4,00 € for the Alibus 457 respectively.
